Going on a short camping trip with the kids to the desert and trying to decide if I should bring the Unimog or not. Does any one know if there are trails for offroading in that area?

Hey Zack, I found this link for you in the area. http://www.oausa.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=1147 Looks like it might be a lot of fun to explore. Robert

Red Cloud Mine Road

Last month I led a group to the Red Cloud Road Trek.  On Sunday of that weekend about 4 of us went down Red Cloud Mine Rd.  At the end of the road there is a working gold mine. (Panning). You need to ask permission to go into the area and don't have any guns as they don't want you to shoot up their equipment.  It was interesting.  There is good camping off Summit road. Look at the event "Red Cloud Road" and follow directions.  Summit and Red Cloud Mine Road form the "Y" mentioned in the directions. There are trails for off roading but they are hard to find. We were lost most of the day. You can download a trail map at the BLM website.

I'm still out of comission with axle replacement, so I can't do anything.

Just replaced my rear axles with Chromoly and also did the "C" clip elimination

I do have one rear good axle if you need it
