Monache Meadows

Friday, July 11th to Sunday, July 13th

Description

This is one of my absolute favorite trips. We will be camping along side a small river in the high Sierra Mountains.  Bring bug spray and firewood.  Bring a fishing pole if you want to try you hand at catching native golden trout.  Several river crossings are available.  Follow the sign posts to get to camp. It is easy four wheeling in and out of the meadows.

Most people will leave Friday morning and rendevous at the Blackrock Ranger station at 12 noon. Those towing will be able to drop their tow vehicles at the Ranger station as we have before. I will be going out a day or two early to ensure that we get a great camping area. We will meet everyone at the Ranger station and lead you to the campsite.  If anyone is interested in going out early, please call and we can coordinate.

The adventure begins once we leave the ranger station.  We will have a little pavement and then hit dirt for the trail to Monache Meadows. We will set up camp and spend the afternoon fishing or exploring Monache Meadows.

On Saturday morning, we will head out of Monache. Our destination will be the Sherman Pass 4x4 trail.  This trail should take about 4+ hours to complete.  It can be tight, rocky and tippy in spots therefore, wide, long wheel base, beware.   It is a very beautiful trall high up in the tall trees. Bring a lunch, which we might enjoy at Sherman Peak. Time permitting, we may run another trail on the way back or head back to camp to fish and enjoy the relaxation of Monache.

If you plan on fishing, make sure you are aware of the regulations for the Golden Trout Wilderness.... barbless hooks etc...

I will bring extra gas. The last time I did the full Monache/Sherman Pass trip, I was OK, but gave some gas to another vehicle.

Anyone that wants to can cordinate meeting at the Norco Chevron station, Kramer Junction, or wherever else makes sense. Last gas is the Shell station in Pearsonville, a wee bit before heading left up 9-mile canyon road. This is about 1 hour north of Kramer Junction.
