Death Valley

Friday, April 14th 2023 to Sunday, April 16th 2023

Description

We’ll leave Norco at 7 AM Friday morning, stopping in Kramer Junction for a late breakfast.  You can get gas in Norco, or Kramer Junction, or Olancha, and you must get gas in Big Pine.  Plan on eating lunch at where North Pass road (Waucoba Rd) meets the Death Valley Road, about half an hour from Big Pine.

Tow vehicles will be left in Olancha.  A gas stop will be made in Big Pine.

This is a long range trip with dry camping on the trail.  Starting from Big Pine we travel into Death Valley thru North Pass and make camp at Saline Valley Hot Springs on Friday night.

Saturday we travel thru Steele Pass, past Eureka sand dunes, with stops at Blue Marble Bath, Crank Shaft Crossing and Ubehebe Crater, stopping for gas at Stovepipe Wells, then on to Chloride City mines/ghost town for camp.

Sunday we’ll go thru Titus Canyon, stopping for gas at Stovepipe Wells, then home.

Big Pine to the gas station at Stovepipe Wells is 172 miles.  From the gas station at Stovepipe Wells to camp, and thru Titus Canyon, and back to the gas station at Stovepipe Wells is 98 miles.  There should be no need to bring extra gas.
