Cleghorn

Saturday, July 18th @ 7:30am

Description

This is a good beginner run because you can stay on the fire road as much you want or try the harder stuff if you feel up to it.  We will do Cleghorn in the morning, stop for lunch then do either 2N17X or Sugarpine Mountain Road in the afternoon.  If everyone in the group is comfortable doing 2N17X(difficult)  i will lead that, otherwise someone else (Keith?) can lead that one and I will lead the other group through Sugarpine Mountain Road (easy).  Sugarpine Mountain Road is as fire roard through the trees with nice views.

If you stay on the fire road a stock 4 wheel drive vehicle will be fine.  The more difficult trails require 2" or 3" of lift, swaybar disconnects and 33" tires.

Cleghorn is an easy trail and a difficult trail that keeps crossing with pretty good views of what is ahead.  Most of the obstacles are steep climbs. There are usually bypasses for the rough stuff.   2N17X has some steep and rocky ascents and descents.  There is about 3.5 miles of pavement between the two trails.

We will leave the Norco Chevron station (6th St. exit off the 15N) at 0730.  Gassing up there should provide enough for the whole trip.  There is a McDonalds next door and a Jack in the Box across the street, if anyone is interested.  We will  be at the trailhead about 0830.

This is a tough one if you have a tow vehicle.  If you leave it at Cleghorn exit you can not do Sugarpine Mountain Road in the afternoon.  We will end up on Palm Ave off of the 215.  After 2N17X you will have to take the 138 to the 15 South for one exit.
